Protocol:

178 clinical specimens for which screening (EMIT) and GCMS conformatory data were available were tested using American Biomedica Kit for Benzoylecgonine (N=50), Morphine (N=50), THC Acid (N=50), Amphetamine (N=23), and phencyclidine (N=5).

Results:

There was concordance between 171 of the 178 specimens for a rate of 96.0%. There was concordance between 148 of the 150 specimens tested for benzoylecgonine, morphine, and THC Acid for a rate of 98.7%. The seven discrepancies included 2 for benzoylecgonine, 2 for phencyclidine, and 3 for amphetamine. Due to the nature of the study, limited volumes were available and reanalysis was not possible. For the amphetamines, sympathomimetic amine content was not known.

Conclusions:

1. Excellent concordance, 96.0%, was noted for the total clinical specimens.

2. Excellent concordance, 98.7%, was noted for the benzoylecgonine, morphine, and THC Acid groups of clinical specimens.

3. The American Biomedica Kits, therefore, produce results consistent with laboratory based testing.
