Common Questions Asked Regarding the Technicalities of On Site Drug Testing
In our Technical Information FAQ we provide answers to a few of the most commonly asked questions regarding the technicalities of on site drug testing.

This is where we, by necessity, get 'technical', and some of the answers may be a bit overwhelming to the average layman.

So, if you'd like to receive more in-depth information on the technical aspects of on site drug testing, wherein we can go into greater detail to explain the technicalities in more easily understood terms, be sure to sign up for our newsletter, which features technical information, in addition to general and legal information, in every issue.

1. What are Drug Detection Limitations?

Drug Detection Limitations describe the length of time that a subject's system will retain a testable amount of a certain drug in their urine. Beyond these time limits, the amount of a specific drug becomes negligible for testing purposes and the results would become unreliable, if not outright erroneous. Therefore, testing for a particular drug must be conducted within the detection limitations specified in the Drug Detection Limitations Chart.

For your convenience, we have provided you with a copy of this Chart. It lists each drug and the estimated length of time that an amount substanial enough to be detected in a test will remain in a person's body from the time of ingestion.

To help you more easily identify a specific drug, we have listed their technical names in all caps, known slang names in parentheses, and commercial names in brackets.

3. What are 'cut-off' levels and does TestExpress meet them?

Over the years the speed and specificity of immunoassays have made them one of the most accepted methods for screening for drugs of abuse in urine. The TestExpress 'Rapid Drug Screen' on site drug testing kits utilize the principle of highly specific reactions between antibodies and antigens for the detection of urinary drugs of abuse. These tests are a rapid, visual, competitive immunoassay for the simultaneous detection of cocaine, opiates, amphetamines, marijuana, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, methamphetamine and PCP in urine. They have been shown to have sensitivity equal to the cut-offs recommended by Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Cut-offs refer to the lowest level of drug in the subject's system that the tests can detect. The SAMHSA recommended cut-offs, that are met by the TestExpress on site drug testing kits, are as follows:

Amphetamines 1,000 ng/ml
Barbiturates 300 ng/ml
Benzodiazepine 300 ng/ml
Benzoylecgonine 300 ng/ml
Cannabinoids 50 ng/ml
Methamphetamine 1,000 ng/ml
Opiates 300 ng/ml
Phencyclidine 25 ng/ml
